 There are good dogs. There are great dogs. Then there are dogs that have the ability to change the lives of the people around them. The last one was Digby.
Digby was born with a natural empathy and was always happiest when he was helping others. This was recognized by the Golden Retriever Club of America in 2007 when they awarded him the Gold Standard Award Honorable Mention for his outstanding service to the community. This award is granted to less then ten Goldens a year.  In Digby’s twelve years he was a blood donor, a canine therapy dog to sick hospitalized dogs, a therapy dog at Lucille Packard Children’s hospital, a therapy dog for adults, and for me he had the ability to alert me to migraines so he was my service alert dog.
No matter what role he was in, there was no better ambassador for the breed. His loss was felt greatly and I will always appreciate all of the support that I received nationwide after he was gone. He was more then a heart dog. He was part of my heart.
Remembering you will never be a problem Dig, trying to let you go and live without you is the hardest part. Digby was P.U. negative and PRA optho. negative at eleven years of age. Documents are available.
